We were back out at Forbush Corner Ski Resort in Frederic, Wisconsin - and this time we were cutting new runs into the trail system to give skiers more variety. That means working through dense mixed forest, flagging new lines, and using forestry mulching to clear the way cleanly without leaving a mess of slash and debris behind.
Forestry mulching is the right tool for this kind of work. Instead of hauling material out or burning it, the machine grinds everything down into a natural mulch layer right on the spot. You get a clean, usable corridor and the mulch actually helps stabilize the ground underneath - which matters a lot for a ski trail that needs to hold up under consistent use and snowpack.
The new runs needed to fit within the existing forest without just bulldozing everything in sight. That takes some precision. We followed the flagged lines carefully, keeping the tree canopy intact above while clearing the understory and smaller growth that would otherwise block the trail. The result is a passable, well-defined run that fits naturally into the landscape.
Forbush Corner is a great operation run by good people. Adding runs like this helps them serve a wider range of skiers - beginners who need gentler terrain, experienced skiers who want more mileage, and everyone in between. It's the kind of work we genuinely enjoy. Helping a place like this grow is pretty rewarding.
Whether it's a recreation property, a private landowner, or a commercial operation that needs land cleared for a specific purpose - forestry mulching gets it done efficiently and without the headaches that come with traditional clearing methods. No burning, no hauling, no massive disruption to the surrounding land.
